Ray and Geneva Goad opened their first restaurant ten years after being discharged from the Navy at the end of WWII with Rays Midway Restaurant in Pinnacle, NC.

He became known for serving his style of Country Ham with his Mother’s homemade southern biscuits at Rays Starlight Restaurant opened in 1962 in Mount Airy, N.C., the home of Andy Griffith and Mayberry, USA.

Ray Goad became an American Fast Food Pioneer when he was the very first to serve his Country Ham and Sausage Biscuits in his Rays Kingburger fast-food restaurants operated across five of the Mid-Atlantic States. You can’t eat at a Rays restaurant today, but you can find a Biscuit Sandwich at fast-food restaurants all across the USA.
